Obituary Eta Pauptit

Mrs. Eta Pauptit (needle of honour NVOW) the grand lady of the breed passed away on Wednesday January 16th, 2008 at the age of 94.

Mrs. Eta PauptitBorn in 1913, Mrs. Pauptit was most likely one of the last breeders and breed fanciers who lived to see the first steps of the Afghan Hounds in Europe. For over 75 years she was a dedicated fancier of the Afghan Hounds and one of the significant breeders (affix “van de Oranje Manege”) for many years. Her kennel has produced a remarkable number of (international) champions and is known all over the world. A great many of todays Afghan Hounds are descending on “van de Oranje Manege”-lines. For many well known and today still active breeders Eta Pauptit’s dogs have been the foundation of their kennels. Horses and dogs (aside from the Afghan Hounds above all Salukis and Shih-Zus) were her passion as well as nature and various cultures.
